If most of the terms used in the XMail manual and the forum here sound like alien language to you, these links are good entry points to clear things up:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Mail_Transfer_Protocol
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POP3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MX_record
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_DNS_lookup

Missed one? Try wikipedia's powerful search engine!

After you have learned this basic knowledge, reread the XMail manual. Most things will become more clear then.
Please don't ask or expect the forum to give you a step-by-step instruction for a complete mail server setup, because YOU have to know and manage the system at the end. So learning by doing is definately the best way!
Feel free to ask specific questions, if you got stuck somewhere and you cannot find an answer in the manual or with the forum's search function.

The XMail Manual can be found here:
- In your local MailRoot/bin folder or
- http://xmailserver.org/Readme.html or

A Linux based quickstart can be found here:

A good starting point for german users can be found here:

Ahem .. yes .. and for the hardcore newbies one more to read:
