I'm pretty new at this sort of thing... it took me a very long time to get this far. the howto for linux was actually the biggest help i think.

I have the xmailserver.test running and i can telnet into it as xmailuser, but i the Test Account Settings button in the Outlook account setup gives me an error "Unable to connect to the incoming mail server (POP3)" and "Unable to connect to the outgoing mail server (SMTP)". I verified from Services control panel that xmail service is running.

i'm not sure what information you would need to help.

TIA

Info needed:
- how did you setup your server.tab (domain name etc.)
- is there firewall between Xmail and internet and you
- comand line switches for Xmail - to which NIC is it listening
- are you using FQDN (fully qualified domain name)

It should be enough for start.

thanks for helping smile.gif after i get this figured out, i'll write up another HOWTO for us windows newbs smile.gif

basically,my goal was to get the xmailserver.test configuration working the way it comes out of the box and just change what i needed to change to get it working. after that, i can get fancy and build my own configuration.

i'm running a home network (winxp) with no domain server, just a workgroup.

here's the info you asked about:
-no command line switches (i figured defaults should be ok although i didn't see any documentation for what the defaults actually are)
-no firewall
-FQDN? uh.... can you tell from the server.tab below?
-server.tab below
