Curious about the results? Then vote! They are directly displayed after voting!

As usual anonymous and confidential. Thanks for your vote!

All of the above??? There not an option like that?

Hehehe ... I'm shure that all this is needed. But this voting should result in a priority list.

Simple mailserver and domain backup

Seems like zipping the lot does the trick... No?

Posted by: hschneider Jan 26 2004, 08:16 PM
- Zipping
- Skipping dnsroots and spool
- Selecting to include user POP boxes or not
- Including startup script (Linux) and registry keys (Windows)
- Nice GUI
- Sending the backup by mail ...

It's difficult to choose. blink.gif

If there was a nice 'various statistics'-option that would be my first choise. sleep.gif

Btw, what are your ideas on 'Script generator for non-programmer'? How would such a thing work?

Posted by: hschneider Jan 26 2004, 11:18 PM
- Formulating actions in real language, like e.g. Outlook's filter generator.
- Assembling actions together by drag'n drop or a wizard styled dialog.
- Managing all filter relevant .tab files with a visual interface.
- Controlling the messages content and the filter's return codes in a debugger like inteface.
- Open architecture with plugin actions.

E.g. for a batch of actions:

If incoming mail is for user fred@domain.com then save its attachment to c:\attachments\fred.
Remove attachment.
Notify admin@domain.com with this text.

In this example, the undelined passages are hyperlinks, which can be changed by a click.

The generated code can be used instantly or it can be modifed by further manual programming. So this would provide a solution for non programmers and rapid filter development for coders.

Nice idea - isn't it ? cool.gif

Added 'statistic tool'.

Posted by: rabbers Feb 6 2004, 03:52 PM
Since I'm used to good ol' version 1.9, I don't know if this has been added, but the #1 mostest usfulest thing that I would like to see is some form of Verbose logging for both SMTP and POP3 - including things like which filters were invoked and in what order and where mail came from and went to etc.

Maybe just adding this sort of stuff to the command line output would work - I'm more interested in whats going on with the mail than how many worker threads have started and terminated.

Sorry this needs to go into the XMail source code and cannot be realized as a seperate tool. Please forward your request to davidel@xmailserver.org .

With >900 users, >260 views and only 15 votes in 4 weeks, the interest in new tools seems not to be very high ... blink.gif

Hmmm, looks like they are all satisfied with the existing tools. wink.gif

Most people, like myself, like to just look instead of registering as a user to post or vote in polls. I eventually got around to registering as a user.

Posted by: hschneider Apr 28 2004, 07:15 AM
That's the situation - no active interest.

As I patiently wait for IMAP, I want to vote for better support for local accounts. I use maildirs and Courier-IMAP. I have a PAM authentication script I wrote, but SMTP doesn't support external authentication. It would be nice to have support for local users as a flag in server.tab which would use ~/.maildir (or whatever) for users in the default domain. Perhaps that's just me. I imagine when XMail supports IMAP internally, all my hacking will go out the window, which would be fine with me.

I'm only commenting here because I thought it was relevant and there wasn't a vote option for it. unsure.gif

@k-dub:
That's also what I am waiting for ... some way to store email either to the users local maildir oder some way to fetch email directly via port 993 from XMail.

My vote was for the "Better remote admin tool".

XPAI does not do enough ... and I'm not _the fan_ of hacking cryptic text files. *eg*

Meszi.

I see ... but Davide's policy is to stay independent from local accounts. Surely this has pros and cons ...

You allready have it - it is called STUNNEL

Posted by: MayVortex Jun 16 2004, 04:27 PM
Yep, but with STUNNEL I can't see users IP (only 127.0.0.1)...

Posted by: bim Jun 16 2004, 10:38 PM
You should direct stunnel output to a logfile (use "stunnel >> logfile" to have it append to the previous). Obviously, this is not ideal, but at least it leaves some trace of who did what.

I've choosed admin tool couse.... The admin tools for windows (programs) are don't support all options. & web admin tools are very simple. Not many options are there. There is some system that is based on .asp.. Not all people got asp servers running too use it. & I don't like very much editing text files (it takes much more time than using some software for configuration).

Posted by: hschneider Jul 13 2004, 08:56 AM
The idea about the admin tool is as follows:
- It needs to support ALL CTRL functions.
- It is either written in PHP or in a portable GUI environment (wxWindows).
- The underlying database will be MySQL.
- Most functions will work without a database.
- It provides a plugin interface for system extensions.

Meanwhile there exists a domain wide bayesian filter:
http://xmailforum.homelinux.net/index.php?showtopic=2098

SpamBayes is one of the most accurate solutions, but requires to be trained well.

And why not a complete administration tool which uses a secure channel (and a secure protocol), could be used for remote administration, has the ability of manipulate logs of all types, etc.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 14 2005, 09:53 AM
You can use stunnel on the ctrl protocol as a secure channel with any admin tool out there. See http://www.stunnel.org for more details.

How about : None of the above ?

Posted by: Roi Aug 1 2007, 11:34 PM
What I need is a way to get some statistics about the domains.
I need:
1. current HD usage for a domain.
2. Monthly bandwidth usage for a domain.

Preferred on a MySQL table for easy access by other scripts that I use.

Clustering and failsafe would be interesting..

Posted by: jcarlock Jul 5 2009, 05:12 AM
Better documentation is required. The documentation leaves something to be desired. If anyone would like some help with the documentation, let me know and we'll go through all the ambiguities and correct them.

As far as tools go, the best tool would be a tool to check if the server can be used for SPAMMING which then offers some suggestions on correcting the problems.

The most wanted tool... The server ran very very well for over a year. A month ago I tried to upgrade the server to ALLOW people to log into it. It accepted email very very well with no problems, but I wanted to provide a way to allow me to log in from another IP address, so I changed some settings to allow someone else to try logging in (they live in another country).

Now I can not even start the server. It's been over a month now and I do not know what settings I changed.

I need to get the source code and start re-reading the source again. I believe I have the source code somewhere, because I started doing this one time in the past a while ago.

So, something better... better analysis and reports (logs to files) to identify problems.

I know... Anonymous voting, but IMAP would be nice. Simple install process without manually editing the registry would be nice. I think a GUI is a must by now. I've had to make my own for my own needs but sometimes I need to add something I haven't setup in my GUI

I've decided to use gmail to pull in my Xmail accounts. This is dope except gmail doesn't automatically check for new messages every X minutes--it's just random, but you can manually check for new messages.
