After installing the agent on my Linux 2.6 box, it won't detach. In debugging mode, no errors are displayed. CTRC+C is not possible at that time.

Then, when looking at "top", I can find a lot of WA (iowait) activity (99%).

I still started the windows application and connected successfully to the server. I started loading the queue. Server CPU usage went to 100%, it was doing something...

The same was true for my laptop: after 3 minutes, my laptop did shutdown because of overheating (locally, it seems to be a heavy process too).

For now, I'm just curious if the queue manager will work. Is is normal to have a high iowait while the agent is not doing anything? And is it normal both systems have a high CPU load (i'm assuming this for my laptop because it overheated).

I hope you can help me out. My ultimate goas is to reduce the spool directory:
du -sh domains spool

1,5G domains
9,7G spool

Which isn't nice to make backup's of anymore. I hope someone can help me out!

Regards,

Pierre

Examining 9.7 GB takes VERY long .... I recommend to clear the spool manually and to check it with XQM after a few hours, when there are less frozen messages than now. Or just clear the oldest messages with this one:

Ok, i've checked my spool directory more carefully now. I found:
- Lots of messages from crontab that were undeliverable (fixed)
- Some spam-messages that are undeliverable.

I'll have a look at the script.

The thing is: This mailserver isn't thát busy. I think it receives a few 100 messages a day. How can the spool directory become so big? I'm scared I might have some kind of bug that's filling up the spool directory. Do you have any idea how to find out what can be wrong? I'm using some antivirus and antispam scripts, nothing more.

For example: An ISP is running Xmail. Lots of messages will be undeliverable. Within a day, they will have a frozen queue of TB's?

Startup options: XMAIL_CMD_LINE="-Sp 50025 -Pp 50110 -B- -F- -Sr 2000 -X- -Mr 24 -W- -Sl -Pl -Qg"

Doesn't Xmail remove frozen messages by default? Thanks for your help,

Regards, Pierre

It only removes them when you set RemoveSpoolErrors to 1 in server.tab. They are instantly deleted, no chance to track anything. However, you can use my script to remove frozen messages which are older than e.g. 30 days.

I'll have a closer look tomorrow.

I'd run the script, it's now about 500 MB (script took 30 min to run...). thanks for your fast response.
