XMail Forum > XMail Server > {mail Root Path Not Found}

Hi All,

currently we're experimenting with virtual servers. Therefore we tried to install xmail on one.

XMail is installed in "c:\production_site\_xmailroot\" and it's running on a virtual x64 W2K3 Server.

I followed the installation steps but the service stops immediately after starting. Eventviewer has two entries:

1)
Ereignisinformationen: Mail root path not found.

2)

Ereignisinformationen: XMail error: 0, {Mail root path not found}: The operation completed successfully. (0x0).

Well, of course I read the manual ;-)

During the 1st attempt I inserted the following registry keys:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/GNU/XMail/MAIL_ROOT --> "c:\production_site\_xmailroot" (Zeichenfolge)

But I received the errors.

During my 2nd attempt I removed the registry settings and used the evironment method.
CMD -> set MAIL_ROOT=c:\production_site\_xmailroot

- Has anyone any clues where to look?
- Casesensitvity?
- Are there known errors on virtual x64 windows server 2003 systems?

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Tomas

Did you set the proper permissions on the complete MailRoot tree ?

Try to start it from commandline:

xmail.exe --debug -Md -Ms c:\production_site\_xmailroot

Same effect ?

Good morning,

thanks for your quick reaction!

the debugging Mode works fine:

C:\Production_Site\_xmailroot\bin>xmail.exe --debug -Md -Ms c:\production_site\_xmailroot
Debugging XMail Server.

As a service xmail still crashes with the same entries in the event viewer.

Permissions should be alright, for the whole Production_site the following settings are active:

- System (Vollzugriff)
- Administrators Full Access (Vollzugriff)

I ran the xmail-service with the administrator account, but the problem still persists.

Is there any way to tell the xmail-service the mail-root than using the registry or environment varible?

Cheers & Many thanks

Tomas

Hi,

just a little Update:

The virtualization Software ist Virtuozzo and I found this link:

http://xmailforum.homelinux.net/index.php?showtopic=3921

But the resources do not seem to be problem. We got about 700 MB available.

The second thing is, that our server doesn't use a swapfile.

That's it for the moment.

Thanks

Use this registry key instead:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/GNU/XMail/MAIL_ROOT --> "c:\production_site\_xmailroot"

This also applies to the MAIL_CMD_LINE key.

Thank you very much!

Thanks! This helped me too... the xmail instructions need updated for Windows x64 with WoW to mention this important point about the reg key.

This helped me, too! I'm running in the cloud ... I have no idea what wow6432node means, but by adding GNU/XMAIL->MAIL_CMD_LINE & MAIL_ROOT there I got Xmail to start. I'm not sure if this is mentioned in the documentation, but it should probably be there. I've been running Xmail for over 5 years and never ran into this issue til I moved to the cloud.
