Hi,
thanks for the clarification on installing the server (in starting Xmail Server thread).
I feel I've made some progress now smile.gif

I now have it running as a service under Win2000pro, and have created a domain in addition to the test one.
I have added a user, "jason" under this domain.
The next step was to check a POP3 account on a remote server, and download messages, the POP3LINKS.TAB contains;
"@localdomain"[tab]"jason"[tab]"isp.pop3.server:110"[tab]"isp username"[tab]"isp pop3 password"[tab]"CLR"<cr><lf>
(the obvious parts are changed)

I've rebooted the service, but don't really know what to do next!
The account is active - at least Outlook can connect with no problems.
There is one test message waiting collection.
I notice there is an 'enable' function on the remote admin "Enabling a POP3 external link" - how is this done in the config files?
Our current server (to be replaced by XMail) allows telnet access, and logs activity to the screen, so you can see it trying to connect to the remote server - I don't think XMail does this.

Basically, the aim is to get XMail to regurlary check our remote POP3 box, routing 'john@ourdomain.co.uk' to the local mailbox 'john' and the same for our other users.

Thanks for any advice,
Jason

Hmm .... there seems something wrong with your pop3links.tab entry:
"@localdomain"[tab]"jason"[tab]"isp.pop3.server:110"[tab]"isp username"[tab]"isp pop3 password"[tab]"CLR"<cr><lf>

- Remove the @ from localdomain.
- remove the :110 from your pop3 server
- The password must be encrypted
- replace CLR with the username john

For my domain intra.net it looks like this:
"intra.net" "administrator" "pop.puretec.de" "pop_username_here" "1618999901" "admin"

My local user is admin@intra.net in this example.

Ignore this. As soon there is a valid pop3link.tab, the link will be active.

Great!
Its working - thanks for the very quick reply.

A few minuites after restarting the server, Outlook Express collected 3 emails from my personal ISP (I don't want to risk losing company emails, but using our Internet hosts POP3 account yet)

Ok, next stage..
You told me to put 'john' instead of CLR (I actually put "jason" as this is the only account at the moment)

We have a 'catch all' pop3 account with our internet host, so jason@domain.com, peter@domain.com, mary@domain.com are all at the same POP3 account.

Now, I'm not too sure why I had to put 'john'/'jason' instead of "CLR", I've just re-read the reference doc under POP3LINKS.TAB, but I'm reading that I should have APOP or CLR!!

My next task is to create additional accounts (peter, mary etc..), and ensure that the server routes emails to the correct recipient as our current server. How can this be achieved?

Many thanks,
Jason

OOps ... was a little late here in Germany (12:35 AM):
CLR is correct! Sorry if I confused you ... blink.gif

Enter them in the mailusers.tab and make sure that they also have home folders under \domains\domainname (you can just copy and rename one of the folders there.)

pop3links.tab then should route all the mail to the correct recipients.

Hi Harald,
Thanks for your help so far.
I've created the additional mailboxes under the domain - they exist under mailusers.tab and have their correct directories under domains/domainname
I have found out about running the server in debug mode, and have xmail checking ever 1 min - whilst I'm experimenting.

The external pop3 box is a 'catch all', and will accept mail to anyuser@ourdomain.co.uk -jclark@ourdomain.co.uk , psearle@outdomain.co.uk etc...

The pop3links.tab is set to
"localdomain" "jclark" "remotepop3server" "remoteuserid" "remoteuserpassword" "CLR"
This appears to only route mail to the jclark account in xmail.
I've looked into mailproc.tab, but are not too sure of its intended function.

Scanning the forum achives, this type of question has been asked a while ago, but there was no answer.

Is XMail able to do this?

Many thanks,
Jason

>Is XMail able to do this?
To route mails from a catchall pop3link to the users?
If you have entered everything correctly under mailusers.tab, this will be done automatically.

E.g.
mailusers.tab:
"intra.net" "mailmaster" "1615009" 1 "admin" "U"
"intra.net" "user1" "1615009" 1 "user1" "U"
"intra.net" "user2" "1615009" 1 "user2" "U"

and pop3links.tab:
"?intra.net,marketmix.com" "admin" "pop.puretec.de" "foo-2" "1615009" "CLR"

Will push mails for user1@intra.net,user2@intra.net,mailmaster@intra.net to the corresponding mailboxes.

So mails for e.g. user1@marktemix.com are going to the mailbox of user1@intra.net in this example.

Have fun!

mailusers.tab:
"local.lan" "info" "xxxxxx" 1 "info" "U"
"local.lan" "Gonzalo" "xxxxxx" 1 "Gonzalo" "U"
"local.lan" "webmaster" "xxxxx" 1 "webmaster" "U"

and pop3links.tab:
"?local.lan,tuxbox.com.ar" "admin" "pop.tuxbox.com.ar" "info" "xxx" "CLR"

pop.tuxbox.com.ar has to be the address of your ISP's POP server.
