XMail Forum > XMail Queue Manager > XQM 1.43 and XQM Agent 1.36 released!

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 01:41 PM
XMail Queue Manager gives you full control over the multi level nested mail queue of XMail Server. You can track messages in their different states (sending, resending and frozen). Statistics tell you about the number and the size of spooled messages. Sort entries by any column header field, start and stop XMail Server directly from this application.

Since Version 1.04 you can run XQM in 'Remote Mode'. That means you can control any server on any platform. All you need is to install an agent on the remote host.

The Agent runs on the remote machine as a service (Win32) or as a daemon (Linux). XQM and its agent communicate via XML RPC (Remote Procedure Call) which runs through any firewall that has HTTP and the agent's port enabled.. Only trusted IPs are served by the agent., remote port and trusted IP list are user defined.

WHAT'S NEW?

All platforms:
- Defrost without restart.
- Reduced resource usage.
- Improved multithreading.
- Updated parse.lib.

Win32:
- Recompiled with latest Python and wxWindows resources.

Linux:
- Recompiled with latest Python and wxWindows resources.
- Startup script for RedHat environments.
- Rewritten INSTALL.txt and xqmagent.conf file.

FreeBSD:
- Rewritten INSTALL.txt and xqmagent.conf file.

Speed is my middle name. cool.gif

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 01:56 PM
Don't worry .. they were never released. Just some experimental things.

Posted by: atomant Dec 1 2003, 01:56 PM
I have just downloaded both xqm win and xqm agent linux and after installing xqm win it shows version 1.39 ??

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 02:02 PM
Look like I'm too slow ... :-/

Please give the server 10 minutes to mirror and try again ..

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 02:06 PM
OK .. update finished.

Posted by: atomant Dec 1 2003, 02:18 PM
Now it is the wright version.

Problem: now I have installed both, agent on linux and XQM on win, I get No agent found. It is deamonized and running, conf file is OK (didn't change anything).

Idea?

Ha, after I ran it in debug mode, now it is working and I didn't start it again as ./xqmagent .

Posted by: atomant Dec 1 2003, 02:27 PM
Correction, it does work the connection to the agent but it doesn't work defrost or delete frozen messages.

UPDATE: it deletes frozen messages but only the selected ones before presing delete button.. If you press delete and select frozen messages then it won't delete them.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 02:33 PM
On which platform do you use the Agent ?

Posted by: atomant Dec 1 2003, 02:33 PM
Linux Redhat 8.0

And another thing: now I can't shutdown xqmagent. I have tried with kill PID but no success, it is still there.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 02:40 PM
OK .. I'll do a test install of RH8 in the next few days and check things out. Thank U!

A kill -KILL pid shoudl do.

Few bugs and problems.

I am running Windows 2003 Server with XMail 1.16. I installed the agent and kept getting the Agent not found message. I uninstalled everything and started again. Still getting the same message. Ran it in debug move it works fine except I can not defrost or delete frozen messages.

Sounds like I have the same problems as Atomant but on a Windows based system rather than a Linux based system.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 05:57 PM
Thank you for the feedback ... just updated the archives of XQM + Agent. Please try again. I was able to track this behavior - now it should work.

Posted by: atomant Dec 1 2003, 07:50 PM
Just tested new versions and there is still problem if you don't manually select frozen messages it is not able to defrost or delete them. Othervise the agent is found.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 1 2003, 10:33 PM
Hmm .... Which Agent version is displayed in the INFO dialog of XQM ?
Should be XQM 1.44 and Agent 1.37 ..

Posted by: atomant Dec 1 2003, 11:28 PM
Yep, XQM 1.44 and agent 1.37/linux2

Posted by: hschneider Dec 2 2003, 08:50 AM
Got it - this requires just an XQM update. Please download 1.45. Sorry about the recent bugs, but upgrading to the latest Python framework required some internal restructuring ...

Posted by: atomant Dec 2 2003, 12:07 PM
Yes, now it is working. image007.gif

Posted by: hschneider Dec 2 2003, 12:15 PM
Fine -- thanks!

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 2 2003, 04:09 PM
updated XQM to 1.45. Havent updated the agent yet. when I hit the X to close XQM I get this pop up in an error box:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 1068, in OnCloseWindow
File "C:\WORK\Software\Python\xqm\buildqmgrwin\out1.pyz/xmaillib", line 1279, in cleanup
NO_AGENT

I can not exit the program cause this pops up every time.

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 2 2003, 04:13 PM
Updated agent to 1.37. I can now query the queue. I can also delete all frozen messages.

Once I updated the agent I was able to exit XQM.

Posted by: atomant Dec 2 2003, 04:17 PM
Yep, it is stated that you need at least agent version 1.37 or up.

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 3 2003, 05:35 PM
New problem. XQM agent is crashing on the remote windows 2003 server while using XQM on the client machine. Its not happening 100% of the time, only when there are a large amount of files in the spool.

I have tested on a server with around 500 messages but when using on one that has 5-10k of messages it crashes after a while. Previous versions have never suffered from this problem.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 3 2003, 05:36 PM
When exactly does it crash? When querying ?

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 3 2003, 05:38 PM
Yeah, while its querying.

Also, if I try to exit the program while the remote agent has crashed I get the earlier error message box popup.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 3 2003, 10:48 PM
Thanks -- I'll check this. ANy hints in your system's event log ?

Posted by: hschneider Dec 4 2003, 10:34 AM
Can't track this error - it runs stable even with 10.000 messages. Please stop the agent's service and run it from command line with
xqmagentwin.exe -debug

Then requery and check if you notice any exceptions or error messages in the agent's output ...

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 4 2003, 10:49 AM
Yes, there was this error message in the event log.

The description for Event ID ( 3 ) in Source ( xqmagentwin ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. Thanks!

The agent didnt crash this time. Another problem though.

XQM doesnt return the list. It shows in the bottom Sendongi: 0 Resending: 0 Frozen: 3044 QSize: 0.00 MB.

This server is currently not sending and hasnt in the last 2 days. so I would guess these would be the right numbers at the moment. Dunno if QSize has the size of all frozen messages in it though.

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 4 2003, 12:34 PM
Found another problem. I hit query again and this time it returned nothing at all in less than a second.

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 4 2003, 12:50 PM
Restarted the Agent on the server and hit Query on the client. This time it returned the full details.

Sending:0 Resending: 0 Frozen: 9310 QSize: 288.54.

If I hit Query again it shows incorrect info again.

Sending: 0 Resending: 0 Frozen: 317 QSize: 0.00 MB

I have not deleted the frozen messages yet as I figured you will need aditional bug fixes testing.

Posted by: atomant Dec 4 2003, 01:01 PM
I got no such problems...looks like agent for windows problem to me

Posted by: hschneider Dec 4 2003, 01:01 PM
Thank you for the detailed tests. I located the problem and built in some exception handling, preventing the service to crash. That the bug still exists is shown by the weird query results. I'll let you know when you can run another test.

Would it be possible to make a zipped archive of your queue available for download ?

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 4 2003, 01:21 PM
its 33MB compressed if you want to download it. If you give me your email address I will mail you a link.

Posted by: hschneider Dec 4 2003, 02:02 PM
Fine ... pls mail the link to h_schneider@marketmix.com -- Thanks!

Posted by: Bhozar Dec 10 2003, 10:17 AM
Any luck fixing the remaining bug?

Posted by: hschneider Dec 10 2003, 10:21 AM
Looks like you have some telepathic skills .... the new version comes in a few minutes!
