before i took over the e-mail server all incoming emails were redirected from 50 accounts to only one account for backup. There are like 60k emails. From time to time i'm asked to search for a speficic e-mail. Problem is that the e-mail format is not readable on server. What can i do to search faster?

Is there any converter or anything to make those files easier to read.

If i use an e-mail client to download the e-mails from server the inbox crashes when over 2GB.

What exactly do you mean with "searching emails" ?
All mails are plain text files which can be processed easily.
The 2 GB limit is a problem of Outlook. Use e.g. Thunderbird instead.

So this about searching inside a mail client. This forum is about XMail SERVER, looks like this is sightly off-topic .. wink.gif

well i wanted to know if there is any facility to read those plain text without an e-mail client. Any script/filter

i get tons of spam and searching for one e-mail in those plain text files is madness.

1231190885486.1317128512.20c.trat <-- this is how e-mails are stored on server.

I got 50.000 like that. How can i search for only 1 e-mail . This was the question smile.gif

starting over... i got in one mailbox on server a lot of e-mails. This e-mails are redirected to this mailbox for backup from other mailboxes.

When someone needs an e-mail from few months ago, i need to search in this mailbox and recover it.

Any easy ways to get a specific e-mail from all backed up e-mails if i'm given the date, sender etc of the e-mail?

Those files contain the whole source of e-mail messages including all headers. Reading the body of message might not be easy, because it can be in some user-unreadable encoding like base64. Headers on the other hand are plain text and searching them with some script should be very easy.

Use some webmail frontend to display and search mailbox content. As Sob said: parsing raw content by script can be tricky.

E.g. http://blog.ilohamail.org/ or http://www.uebimiau.org/
