XMail Forum > XMail Queue Manager > 400 000 messages frozen, help plz

Posted by: pedrolopez Nov 18 2005, 01:16 PM
Hi,

I have a XMail server running on my web server.
I regularily send mails to approx 150 000 registered users

I found out recently that my spool has 400 000 files for 3 GB. Probably half of that are frozen emails, the rest being log messages.

I realized in the same time that many users with valid emails complained that they did not receive their registration email.

Questions :
- do you think the lost emails can be linked to this oversized spool ?
- can Xmail Queue Manager clean all the frozen and logs without having to scan the spool first (I tried but after 7000 mails scanned it seemed to paralyse my Web Server)
- Is there a config to avoid keeping the frozen emails forever ?

thanks so much for your help !

Hi,

concerning the keeping of frozen messages:
http://www.xmailserver.org/Readme.html#server_tab_variables
-> RemoveSpoolErrors
Make sure to set "ErrorsAdmin" if you want to keep track of delivery failures, as XMail unfortunately has no log for delivery-errors besides of the slog files on the individual messages - not so good in my opinion.

You may also want to move the contents of the "froz" directories to another disc or server to analyze it without burdening the production mail server (keep the directory structure).

Thanks Manuel,
this helps

I guess instead of cleaning 400 000 frozen messages I better (copy and) delete the entire tree structure.

It would be interesting WHY these messages were frozen. Use XQM on your fresh spool to find out why they were not delivered. Set RemoveSpoolError only to 1, if you are absolutely sure that your config is OK.
